Point of Rocks is a tiny unincorporated village where the Catoctin Mountain ridge meets the Potomac River, known well beyond the county for its ornate Gothic-style B&O train station -- still an active MARC stop -- and the C&O Canal towpath running right along the water.

Homes here are few and close to the river and rail line, mostly older and modest, with the floodplain shaping what can be built where. It's a quiet, small community more than a commercial center, and most trips through it are on the way to or from the canal.

A few practical things that come up repeatedly in Point of Rocks:

• Access. Our truck needs roughly 60 feet of straight approach and about 23 feet of vertical clearance to raise the hoist. Mature trees and low service drops rule out the bigger containers on plenty of older streets.
• Spring thaw. March and April are the highest-risk window in Frederick County. Saturated ground, soft lawns and posted weight limits on rural roads all bite at once. Tell us the surface and we will plan around it.
• Winter. Frozen ground actually drives beautifully; ice does not. Clear and sand the placement area before we arrive, and remember snow and rain add real weight to an open container.
• Summer heat. Asphalt softens badly on a hot July afternoon. We book morning deliveries where we can and always put boards down.
• Covenants. Newer subdivisions sometimes restrict how long a container can sit visible from the street. Worth a two-minute check.
